Who asks the most interesting questions?

InfoDump Analysis Request. Who asks the most interesting questions in AskMe? Given:

1) Users broken down into three groups: a) Low askers - Users who have asked less than 10 questions (but obviously at least one). b) High askers - Users who have asked more than 100 questions and c) Medium askers - Users who have asked at least 10 questions but no more than 100 questions.

2) Ratio of number of all of the favorites that have been received by all of a user's AskMe questions (questions only, not answers) divided by the number of questions they have asked.

What I'd really like to see is: a list of 10 users in each group with highest favs to question ratio with user name, number of favorites, and number of questions. Also, could you link their username to their profile, so I can then just go over and look at their questions.

I know I could/should learn to do this myself, but I was hoping someone else would take a stab at it to satisfy my curiosity?

No research papers or post-doctoral thesis involved here. No timeline/deadline at all.

I was just looking at lists of AskMe questions for a couple of users today and thought "Gee, they really ask interesting questions. I wonder who else asks interesting questions?"

If you think 10 and 100 are not the best parameters for breaking down high/medium/low askers, use your best judgment. Same if you think 10 in each group is too many or too few, you decide. These numbers are just suggestions. You're the query god, you get to decide what makes the most sense.

Yes, yes...I need more training.

Help me learn the blue. Can someone post an insightful thread of the same subject on the blue that is framed better than my fail?

Also, can I get some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I don't think a "you fucked up", or "this is not it" gives me anything constructive to build on.

I got nothing else to say, so I'm outta this thread unless we start talking about savory muffins or fucking pillows.

Out like gout.

Metafilter derail from this thread...

Metafilter derail from this thread...on terrorism and responses to terrorism. 1) Is this the appropriate way to use MetaTalk, and 2) let's continue the conversation, if it should continue. I ahve been advised (on another site) that terrorism is the ultimate weapon. It can come from anywhere, any person might turn out to be a terrorist. There is no defense. You never know whom to retaliate against. This is similar to your statement, _cave, that lashing out against a population that is completely uninvolved in attacking the United States would make no sense at all. But then, acts of senseless destruction are committed all the time, and lots of people believe that they serve some purpose. Why did terrorists destroy the World Trade Center, killing people who had never attacked or harmed those terrorists in any way? It's actually worse than that. If Osama bin Laden planned the attack (which has been challenged earlier in this discussion, but which nonetheless appears to be the case) he was an ally of the US, which had given him tremendous assistance in defeating the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Then he turns around and bites the hand that fed him. Or the terrorists from Saudi Arabia or Egypt - the US has been good to those countries. The US defends them and gives them foreign aid.
So, we can consider outselves to be helpless in the face of terrorism, or we can adopt the ultimate weapon for ourselves and also be terrorists. Crazy, yes, but we live in a crazy world. Terrorists come from cultures that understand the use of terrorism and would be impressed by it if we used it against them. We are not speaking to people in their own language.

grizzled, this is turning into a derail that I'd be delighted to talk about elsewhere but am not sure is appropriate for this thread (I suck at Metafilter conversational rules sometimes)?

Beijing meet-up (back by popular* demand) *in the sense that saysthis fancies the idea and bokane isn't opposed.
It's mozarella cheese on a lot of random things, y'all

Who in NYC wants to go drink some soju out of the hollowed out carcass of a watermelon? I asked a while back if anybody might be interested in a Pocha 32 meetup. Unfortunately, that was in a thread for another meetup. I've been trying to find a lull in between meetups to slip this in, but there seems to be no real lull for NYC meet ups and I figured, fuck it, someone in this city's going to want to meet up at some point in K-Town.

So, I'm looking to see whose possibly interested. Mainly because if it's a bigger number I might have to go the reservation route, but if not, then it's just a matter of figure out a date time to meet.

Couple of things:

- I don't know how non-alcohol drinker friendly this place is beyond water. They might have soft drinks, I'll have to ask.

- Folks with any dietary restrictions and vegetarians might have a tough time. My apologies. It's just that, if you've eaten out in K-Town enough, you know sometimes menu-labeling can get a bit shady. I can play translator, but no guarantees.

- It's Korean pojang macha (think like, izakaya) style eating/drinking, so it's pretty communal, which means a shared tab. I know some people are weird about that.

However, having said all that if you want to drink a lot and eat some weird shit, this might be the thing for you. So who's with me? Huh?

Unorthodox Chicago meetup. Please read fully before committing. Why unorthodox? Juliet Banana and I were having dinner at The Southern not so long ago, and we thought the Family Style Fried Chicken Dinner there sounded like a pretty good idea. As you can see, it's for parties of 6-10 guests only. With JB and myself, we are at a minimum of four more guests, a maximum of eight. If you cannot see yourself paying $22 for fried chicken, you are excused from this particular class with no hard feelings and we'll see you at the next one of our many meetups. Also note that you will likely be in for a share of one or more of their punch bowls as well, though that's certainly not compulsory (some of us are drinking for two), so don't worry too much on that score. Reservations will be made, so please do not commit to this unless you are in for the whole sin. No backing out (barring emergencies, of course). The first eight people to step up with a definite yes are in.

As far as dates go, I am fairly flexible, but I think a weeknight sometime in the next couple of weeks would work best for me.

Ask-mefi- what's going on, or am I the crazy one?

How many posts on askmefi are fake? I've noticed over the past couple of weeks a couple of posts that are just too weird/perfect in their own strangeness that I had a hard time believing they weren't created by someone. Is this a real phenomenon on askmefi, or are these real people asking real questions?

Here are 2 examples.

Each seems to be the perfect storm.

Disclaimer: I am not questioning the severity of these issues or passing any sort of judgement, it's just got me wondering if people sit around and think up crazy questions to ask on metafilter. If so, what's the purpose. Am I thinking about this way too hard?

'Ere We Go!

It is once again the time of year where
1.) someone (me) proposes a meetup at Burning Man
2.) numerous MeFites comment about how they won't be attending and anyone who does attend is stupid, and
3.) a small but dedicated core of MeFites get together on the playa and have a great time.
Pick a side and wade in. One year after being unable to attend my last proposed Burning Man meetup due to health and financial problems, I am making my return to BRC for 2010. This seems like a good opportunity for me to enjoy the company of some far-flung MeFites, so I'm posting to see who'll be out in the desert this year. Let's get together.

Steak and Eggy-Weggs, Oh My Brothers

Late August Canoe Trip Meetup

As previously proposed here and acted upon here, I would like to reintroduce the concept of a Seattle area canoe trip meetup over the third weekend of August for a variety of reasons. As for details on the how, what and where, click on those links above for the further details. And, as for the when, let me propose the late afternoon to early evening of Saturday, August 21st... As for the alleged reasons, one is that the 520 floating bridge will be closed for the weekend of August 20th to 23rd for the bridge's annual inspection. Having rented canoes at the UW for some years--decades, even--I know that it really enhances the experience.

Another reason is that renting canoes at the Waterfront Activity Center is something that is going to come to a close for a long time as the state gears up to widen the 520 highway. Sometime soon, renting canoes at the UW will be out of the question for some time to come. Which is truly a shame.

As for the few that did show up when it finally happened, well, we had a wonderful time. I think everyone who attended will agree. So, I would like to repeat the experience for more than the few while we can.

Now, I don't want this to preclude any sooner meetup--like a bumper car flash crowd, for instance, before the Fun Forest bumper car concession closes, if indeed, it has not already closed--or the usual noisy tavern meetup, for that matter.

Only with less noise, please...

And, we can include the tavern meetup with the canoe trip. Those who want to paddle can paddle and those who want to meet and drink can both be accommodated, I should think. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to throw this canoe rental concept up now before our local meetup calendar gets filled.

And you--what do you think ?

OMG N00BS.

There are a lot of new people on MetaFilter and I want to make a Welcome to MeFi page on the wiki. Can you help me out with some things you wished you'd known when you were new here? I've been trying to update some pages on the MeFi Wiki and it seems like we don't have a "So you're new to MetaFilter...." page and I'd like to make one. Thinks like Recent Activity and My Ask and "What's the difference between best answer and the resolved tag?" may be old hat to a lot of us and totally brand new to others. I'd like to make a list of tips about how to use the site, things worth knowing, etc.

In my dream world we could put a link to this in a Welcome to MeFi email we send to new people so they can orient themselves as much as they see fit. The older MeFi gets, the less it resembles other sites on the web (in good and bad ways) and so I'd like to give people some idea of what they're getting into. Thanks!

St. Louis Happy Hour, Friday August 6th.

St. Louis: how's about a happy hour the evening of Friday, August 6th? Somewhere near Wash U/Forest Park? A friend and I are driving up from Tulsa for a show at the Pageant that night. I'm hoping we'll get in town/checked in at the hotel and all of that by 4 or 5 that evening. However, we'll have just spent seven hours in the car together, so talking to someone else for a little while would probably be groovy. Anyone want to meet up for a couple of beers somewhere in the area? I haven't been up there since '03, so I've got nothing in the way of recommendations. Snacky food would probably be cool, but I'm not going to need a full meal right before a show.

Meet the Lady Gaga Spammer!

I'm going to be in San Francisco on family vacation from August 3rd to August 10th. Any suggestions on what I should do there? Anyone want to meet up for a meetup? Advice: I want to do something foody or beery, as I consider myself a homebrew nerd and a foodie. I'm more familiar with East Coast beers, so all I know of your West Coast breweries is Sierra Nevada, Stone and Rogue. Set me straight on your craft beers!

I've already been to Frijtz, so don't worry about me suggesting it.

Anyway, I'm planning on doing this as a pleasant excursion from the family vacation, not in place of the family vacation. So don't call me anti-family for not wanting to spend every second with my neo-conservative birther grandparents!
